United Nation’s declared 5th June as World Environment Day and its primary target to increase awareness about protecting environment.
World Environment Day first held in 1974 and since then this day is celebrating over 143 countries worldwide. Many NGO, social awareness team, environmentalist’s participant in this event every year. Each year UN decided new theme. This year the theme was ‘Air Pollution’ and hosting country was China.
Due to global warming, excessive population growth and excessive use of plastic our environment is deteriorating drastically. If we don’t be careful from now it will be impossible for our next generation to survive on earth. Ice are melting faster than we can think and water level is also increasing. UN decided to celebrate World Environment Day as a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human over population, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
On this day people from all over the world plant trees, NGO’s arrange various debate program, awareness videos about water wastage, minimal use of plastics etc. are the main focus. Due to use of excessive plastic, ocean life is hampered badly. Water level is rising and because of that countries like Maldives, Srilanka, Bangladesh, South portion of India and Mumbai are at high risk.
Each year, World Environment Day has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
One single person cannot change climate overnight. It needs individual participation and help.
We can plant trees every month in our locality and bear lands around us. Be careful when using water. Slowly replace plastic with environment friendly substances. Be kind to animal and not try to disturb wild life. Do not burn plastic substances as it will cause severe air pollution. Also not throwing plastic in rivers because it will harm water life.
Last but not the least, only celebrating one day as World Environment Day won’t save our mother planet. We need to be active and careful each day and every person on earth should raise voice to save this planet. Only then we can ensure a pollution free beautiful planet for our coming generation.
